Women’s Lacrosse Picked Fourth In Pre-Season Poll
Falcons notch 31 points in 2018 MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Coaches Poll
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team was recently picked fourth overall in the 2018 MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Pre-Season Poll as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
The Owls of Westfield State University were selected to win the 2018 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse championship in a vote of the league's coaches. The reigning MASCAC Tournament Champions collected six first place votes for a total of 48 points.
Bridgewater State followed in second with a total of 43 points, including two first place ballots. Framingham State was picked to finish third with 36 points, while Fitchburg State was next, registering 31 points after being selected fourth.
Sitting in fifth was Worcester State with a total of 25 points, while the Vikings of Salem State were picked sixth after amassing 21 points. Massachusetts Maritime Academy and MCLA rounded out this year's poll in seventh and eighth place with 11 points and nine points respectively.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in the sport of football for the 2013-14 academic year.
