Hemmings stops nine shots in non-conference setback 

Milton, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to the Colonels of Curry College in non-conference action this evening at William M. Katz Field.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State nearly took the lead at the 10:33 mark as sophomore midfielder Mikaela Mitchell (Millbury, Mass./Millbury) blasted a shot on frame that caromed of the far post. Curry proceeded to take a 1-0 advantage in the 33rd minute of play when freshman Samantha Borges (Somerset, Mass./Somerset-Berkley Regional) deposited a shot into the lower right corner for her third score of the season.

Following the break, the Colonels doubled their margin (2-0) at the 55:39 mark as freshman Maddie Wilson (Millbury, Mass./Millbury) collected a loose ball in front of the net and tucked the ball inside the far post for her third score on the year.

The Falcons best scoring opportunity of the second half came with just over 13 minutes remaining in the contest when freshman Elicia Marshall (Taunton, Mass./Taunton) sprung free of the defense, but her shot went just wide, resulting in the 2-0 final.

Inside the Numbers

This evening's contest will mark the 21st meeting between the two team on the pitch with the Falcons currently 7-14-0 when taking on the Colonels.

Curry has won the last five contests against Fitchburg State, including a 6-3 decision last season at Elliot Field.

Curry held a 21-13 margin in shots, while the corner kicks were even at six aside.

In goal, sophomore Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass./Nauset Regional) made nine saves for the Falcons in the complete game effort, while junior Katelyn DeMaio (North Andover, Mass./Niorth Andover) stopped five shots for the Colonels in 75:13 minutes of action.

Marshall concluded the contest with a game-best seven shot for the Falcons in the contest.
