Falcons Rally Past Rams in 2 OT Victory

 

 

Liz Read notches game winner in double OT

Boston, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer team erased a 1-0 deficit to rally past the Rams of Suffolk University 2-1 in double overtime in non-conference action this afternoon.

How It Happened

Suffolk opened up the scoring at the 35:05 mark as sophomore Carley Pearce (Bridgewater, Mass.) collected a feed from junior Addisyn Lanza (Madison, Conn.) and found the back of the net for her first tally of the season for the 1-0 advantage.

Following the break, the Falcons knotted the game (1-1) at the 61:13 as senior Micalea Goldenberg (Douglas, Mass.) connected for her second goal of the season with an unassisted score off a free kick at the top of the box.

Almost forty minutes later the Falcons notched the win when junior McKenzie Tenney (Orange, Mass.) threaded a pass through the box to newcomer Elizabeth Read (Lowell, Mass.) for the double overtime goal resulting in the 2-1 final.

Inside the Numbers

Suffolk held a 21-9 advantage in shots and corner kicks (5-0).

In goal, senior Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass.) earned her first victory of the season. Hemmings made seven saves in 74 minutes of action, while freshman Dania Politi (Springfield, Mass.) had two saves in the first 35 minutes.

Suffolk netminder Allison Rodrigues (North Andover, Mass.) made one save in the complete game effort.
