How It Happened

Fitchburg State grabbed the lead at the 5:09 mark as freshman Elizabeth Read (Lowell, Mass.) collected a feed from junior McKenzie Tenney (Orange, Mass.) and buried a shot inside the far post for her team-leading seventh goal on the season for the 1-0 edge.

The Green and Gold nearly doubled their margin in the 57th minute of action when senior Tess Angelosanto (Stoneham, Mass.) put a shot on frame, but MCLA keeper Megan Richardson (Adams, Mass.) denied the scoring chance to keep the score at 1-0. 

The Falcons would eventually double their advantage (2-0) at the 78:36 mark with senior Micalea Goldenberg (Douglas, Mass.) connecting on her third score of the year off an assist from classmate Brittny Peralta (Leominster, Mass.).

This afternoon's contest will mark the 25th meeting between the two teams on the pitch with the Falcons 10-13-3 all-time when taking on the Trailblazers

Fitchburg State has won three of the last four contests with MCLA, including a 1-0 triumph last season at the Shrewcroft Field

The Falcons finished with a slim 18-8 margin in shots, while the Trailblazers finished with a 7-3 edge in corner kicks

Senior Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass.) made three saves for Fitchburg State en-route to her fifth career shutout

Richardson stopped eight shots for MCLA in the setback

With her eight saves this evening, Richardson eclipsed the 500 career saves mark and currently sits at 502 career saves.

Falcons will host the Wildcats of Bay Path University on Tuesday for a non-conference tilt, starting at 7:00 PM. Trailblazers will host the Pilgrims on the same date for a non-conference matchup at 4:00 PM.
