Falcons Clipped By Lancers, 4-1 On Senior Day

Peralta nets lone score for Fitchburg State in conference setback

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State Women's Soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to the Lancers of Worcester State this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Worcester State opened the scoring 6:48 into the contest as freshman Haley Mignon (Tewksbury, Mass.) lofted a shot into the upper left corner for her fifth tally on the season for the 1-0 margin. Fitchburg State knotted the score (1-1) less than a minute later when senior Brittny Peralta (Lunenburg, Mass.) headed a corner kick off the foot of freshman Elizabeth Read (Lowell, Mass.) inside the near post for her first goal of the year.

Following the break, the Lancers regained the lead one minute into the stanza Mignon connecting on her second tally of the contest off an assist from junior Madison Rotti (Upton, Mass.) to make the score 2-1.

Worcester State secured the victory in the 61st minute of action as junior Maddie Fong (Norton, Mass.) launched a shot from 17 yards out off a free kick and into the top right corner for her second score of the 2019 campaign, resulting in the 4-1 final.

This afternoon's contest marked the 29th meeting between the two teams on the pitch with the Falcons 3-26-0 all-time when taking on the Lancers

Worcester State has won the last 13 matchups with Fitchburg State, including a 4-2 decision last season at Coughlin Field

Prior to the contest, the Fitchburg State women's soccer team honored seven seniors playing in their final regular season with the seniors being #1 Sarah Hemmings, #2 Brittny Peralta, #7 Micalea Goldenberg, #8 Kayla Baker, #14 Tess Angelosanto, #15 Natalie Arsenault and #25 Madeline Kuntz.
