Hemmings turns aside two shots for Fitchburg State in conference setback

Salem, Mass. – The Fitchburg State Women's Soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to the Vikings of Salem State this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Alumni Field.

How It Happened

Salem State opened the scoring just 1:16 into the contest as senior Katie Brown (Milford, Mass.) gathered a feed from classmate Devin Malatesta (Wilmington, Mass.) and connected on her sixth tally of the season for the 1-0 margin. The Vikings doubled their margin (2-0) in the 11th minute of action when senior Taylor Capozzi (Lynn, Mass.) netted her sixth score on the season.

The hosts upped their lead at the 26:15 mark with Malatesta receiving a pass from freshman Kaley Moran (Arlington, Mass.) before put a shot inside the near post for her seventh goal on the 2019 campaign to make the score 3-0 going into the break.

Following the intermission, Salem State extended its margin in the 59th minute of play as Brown notched her second goal of the contest off an assist from senior Vashti Etienne (Avon, Mass.) for the 4-0 advantage before Colleen Hurley (Braintree, Mass.) capped the scoring for the hosts with her second tally of the season, resulting in the 5-0 final.
