Falcons Open 2018-19 Season At The UMB Invitational

Bowman places fourth in the 800 meter with time of 2:29.27

Roxbury, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's indoor track & field team opened their 2018-19 season this afternoon after competing in the 2018 UMass Boston Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

How It Happened

Sophomore Kambrynn Bowman (Norton, Mass.) paced the Falcons with a fourth place MASCAC qualifying time of 2:29.27 in the 800 meter, while freshman Denise Yeboah (Worcester, Mass.) notched a ninth place effort in the long jump with a post-season qualifying mark of 4.84 meters.

Senior Amy Kelly (Stoughton, Mass.) turned in a MASCAC qualifying time of 5:53.44 with an 18th place finish in the mile, while newcomer Nyasia Torres (Fitchburg, Mass.) posted a post-season qualifying time of 13:36.58 in the 3000 meter with an 18th place finish. Senior Phedelia Boakye (Lowell, Mass.) was also solid for the Falcons, placing 15th overall in the 400 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 1:14.98.

The 4x400 meter relay team of freshman Chloe Guzman (Pawtucket, Conn.), Yeboah, Boakye and Bowman registered a tenth place time of 4:49.39, while junior Brianna Young (Mansfield, Mass.) placed 13th in the shotput (10.44m) and 21st in the weight throw (9.82m). Guzman rounded out the top performances for the Green and Gold, finishing 14th overall in the triple jump with a post-season qualifying mark of 8.68 meters.
