Falcons Shine At PSU Winter Classic

Kelly, Bowman and Young notch second place finishes

Plymouth, N.H. – The Fitchburg State University women's indoor track & field team placed third overall at the 2018 Plymouth State University Winter Classic this afternoon with a total of 69 points at the All Well North Athletic Center.

How It Happened

Senior Amy Kelly (Stoughton, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons with a pair of MASCAC qualifying time in the mile (5:46.79) and the 3000 meter (11:29.98) after placing fourth and second respectively, while sophomore Kambrynn Bowman (Norton, Mass.) posted a second place time of 2:31.11 in the 800m to qualify for MASCAC's.

Junior Brianna Young (Mansfield, Mass.) posted a post-season qualifying toss of 10.98 meters in the shot put to place second overall, while in the 1000 meter, freshman Nyasia Torres (Fitchburg, Mass.) (4th) and senior Jennifer Desilvestre (Beverly, Mass.) (5th) turned in MASCAC qualifying times of 3:59.61 and 4:01.32.

Freshman Chloe Guzman (Pawtucket, Conn.) placed sixth in the 60 meter hurdles (10.76), ninth in the 60 meter dash (8.58) and seventh in the 400m (1:08.76) to qualify for MASCAC's in all three events, while Torres added a post-season qualifying time of 6:36.47 in the 1000m to net her second post-season qualifying time of the day.

The 4x200 meter relay team of Guzman, freshman Denise Yeboah (Worcester, Mass.), sophomore Sylvia Owusu-Agyeiwaa (Webster, Mass.) and newcomer Tatiana White (Lowell, Mass.) posted a sixth place time of 2:00.42.

In the field, Yeboah placed third overall in the long jump with a post-season qualifying mark of 4.80 meters, while Young added a fourth place toss of 10.94 meters in the weight throw. In the triple jump, Guzman (9.10m) and Desilvestre (8.84m) placed fourth and sixth respectively to round out the top efforts for the Green and Gold on the day.
