Falcons Take On Branwen Smith-King Invite

Desilvestre and Torres notch PR's in the 1000 meter

Medford, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's indoor track & field team competed at the 2019 Branwen Smith-King Invitational, hosted by Tufts University this afternoon at the Tufts Gantcher Field House.

How It Happened

Sophomore Kambrynn Bowman (Norton, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons after placing ninth in the 1000 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 3:14.68, while the 4x200 meter relay team of freshman Chloe Guzman (Pawtucket, Conn.), classmate Denise Yeboah (Worcester, Mass.), sophomore Sylvia Owusu-Agyeiwaa (Webster, Mass.) and sophomore Makaisha Gonzalez (Lunenburg, Mass.) turned in a tenth place effort of 2:03.27. 

In the 1000 meter, freshman Nyasia Torres (Fitchburg, Mass.) and senior Jennifer Desilvestre (Beverly, Mass.) posted PR times of 3:57.28 and 3:59.13 respectively, while Guzman added a MASCAC qualifying time of 8.73 seconds with a 16th place effort in the 60 meter dash.

In addition, Gonzalez posted her second post-season qualifying time on the day, placing 15th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 10.51 seconds, while Yeboah registered a MASCAC qualifying mark of 4.63 meters in the long jump.

Junior Brianna Young (Mansfield, Mass.) notched a pair of MASCAC qualifying marks in the shot put (10.47m) and the weight throw (8.62m), while junior Heisha Santos-Flores (Webster, Mass.) rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the day with a 6.45m toss in the shot put  as well as registering a mark of 7.46 meters in the weight throw.
