Falcons Soar At Billy Brockmueller Invitational

Murphy, Gibbons, Guzman & Tormey pace Green and Gold with first place efforts

Providence, R.I. – The Fitchburg State University women's indoor track & field team competed at the 2020 Billy Brockmueller Invitational, hosted by Brown University this afternoon.

How It Happened

Sophomore Chloe Guzman (Pawtucket, Conn.) led the way for the Falcons, placing first overall in the 60 meter dash with a MASCAC qualifying time of 8.50 seconds, while classmate Selina Gibbons (Littleton, Mass.) added a first place effort of 28.81 seconds in the 200 meter to qualify for the post-season.

In the 800 meter, freshman Abigail Murphy (Plaistow, N.H.) claimed top honors with a post-season qualifying time of 2:30.07, while fellow freshman Devin Tormey (Fitchburg, Mass.) registered a first place time of 10.62 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles to qualify for the MASCAC's.

In the 60 meter dash, Gibbons (8.66) and sophomore Denise Yeboah (Worcester, Mass.) (8.73) placed third and fifth, qualifying for MASCAC's, while Guzman (3rd), Yeboah (7th) and newcomer Kelsie Graham (10th) turned in post-season qualifying times of 29.08 seconds, 30.79 seconds and 32.37 seconds in the 200 meter.

Junior Olivia Mullins (Quincy, Mass.) posted a second place time of 11:42.30 in the 3000 meter to qualify for the post-season, while in the 400 meter, Guzman turned in a MASCAC qualifying time of 1:07.19 after placing second overall in the event.

The 4x200 meter relay team of Gibbons, Guzman, Yeboah and Tormey finished second with a MASCAC qualifying time of 1:56.44, while freshman Lilah McAndrew (Old Lyme, Conn.) posted a post-season qualifying time of 5:53.62 in the mile to also qualify for MASCAC's.

Rounding out the top efforts for the Green and Gold on the afternoon, was Yeboah, placing second in the long jump with a post-season qualifying mark of 4.48 meters.
