Fitchburg State Hosts Annual Jim Sheehan Memorial Invite

Young and Woolley guide Falcons to second place finish with a total of 112 points

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's indoor track and field team hosted its annual Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitation this afternoon at Elliot Field as the Falcons placed second overall with a total of 112 points.

Sophomore Brianna Young (Mansfield, Mass.) took top honors in the shot put with a MASCAC qualifying throw of 10.00 meters, while sophomore Micalea Goldenberg (Douglas, Mass.) turned in a fourth place effort in the 400 meter hurdles with a post-season qualifying time of 1:18.34.

On the track, senior Casey Taylor (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished second overall in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:56.10, while junior Amy Kelly (Stoughton, Mass.) added a third place effort in the 1500 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 5:10.47.

Freshman Makaisha Gonzalez (Lancaster, Mass.) turned in a time of 17.14 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles with a second place finish, while senior Annie Woolley (Malden, Mass.) and freshman Isabella Berardi (Norton, Mass.) finished first and third with post-season qualifying times of 1:04.99 and 1:06.26 in the 400 meter.

In the 100 meter, senior Amanda Remie (Marstons Mills, Mass.) and classmate Angelica Beato (Lowell, Mass.) placed fifth and sixth with MASCAC qualifying times of 14.03 and 14.32 seconds respectively, while Kelly and senior Shawna Ryan (Hanson, Mass.) turned in post-season qualifying times of 2:34.44 and 2:40.53 in the 800 meter.

In the field, junior Jennifer Desilvestre (Beverly, Mass.) posted a MASCAC qualifying mark of 8.70 meters in the triple jump with a fifth place finish, while Young and  Kelly Mccusker-Brown (Watertown, Mass.) finished 13th and 16th in the discus with post-season qualifying tosses of 19.50m and 15.50m respectively.

Mccusker-Brown and newcomer Madison Podedworny (Webster, Mass.) placed fifth and seventh in the javelin with MASCAC qualifying throws of 22.02m and 19.16m, while Young (27.41m) and Mccusker Brown (24.41) finished fifth and seventh in the weight throw to qualify for MASCAC's.

Woolley and Berardi turned in post-season qualifying times of 27.29 and 29.56 seconds, placing first and eighth in the 200 meter to round out the top efforts for the Falcons on the aftrernoon.

The Fitchburg State men's track and field team will be back in action next weekend as it competes at Mount Holyoke on Saturday, April 14th for a meet starting at 10:00 AM.
