MASCAC Pre-Season Women’s Volleyball Poll Announced
Falcons place seventh overall with 10 points
FITCHBURG, Mass. –The Fitchburg State women's volleyball team was recently selected seventh overall with ten points in the 2018 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) pre-season women's volleyball poll as voted on by the league's coaches.
Worcester State, the reigning MASCAC regular season and post-season tournament champions, earned six of the eight first place votes to place first overall with 48 points to outdistance second place Framingham State's total of 42 points, which included the two remaining first place ballots.
Landing in the third spot was Westfield State with 39 points, while Bridgewater State followed in fourth after amassing 29 points. Claiming the fifth slot was MCLA with 26 points, while Salem State finished in sixth with 20 total points. Fitchburg State and Mass. Maritime closed out the 2018 MASCAC Women's Volleyball Preseason Poll, tying for seventh with ten points each.
The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football in 2013-14.
The Fitchburg State women's volleyball team will kick off its 2018 season on Saturday, September 1st as it travels to New England College for a tri-match, taking on the Pilgrims at 11:00 AM and the Hornets of Northern Vermont-Lyndon at 1:00 PM.
