Falcons drop 3-0 decision to Framingham State; Collect 3-0 victory over Bay Path in second match

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's volleyball team split a pair of contests this evening at the Parkinson Gymnasium. The Falcons dropped a 3-0 decision to the Rams of Framingham State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action in the first contest before registering a 3-0 victory over the Wildcats of Bay Path College in the second match of the evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Framingham State University defeated Fitchburg State by set scores of 25-5, 25-16, 25-14 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action

The Rams came out strong in the first set, as they marked a set attack percentage of .522 and held the Falcons to a negative attack percentage.

Framingham State's Brandey Rodriguez (Lawrence, Mass) and Brandee Thomas (North Kingstown, RI) led the attack with 11 kills apiece for the visitors. Senior Mackenzie Whalen (Norton, Mass.) tallies a game high 28 assists in the win, while junior Deirdre Fay (Cornwall, NY) led the defense with 14 digs.

For the Green and Gold, Kathryn Carroll (Shrewsbury, Mass.) had three kills, while Kristina Osborne (Ashby, Mass), Jaquelyn Manyak (Bolton, Mass.) and Meredith Taylor (Reading, Mass.) each added three assists.

Sophomore Jessica Peirce (Brentwood, NH) picked up 8 digs on the defensive end for the hosts.

Framingham State held a 39-13 margin in kills and a 9-5 edge in service aces.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Fitchburg State University defeated the Wildcats of Bay Path University by sets of 25-20, 26-24, 25-19 in non-conference action at the Parkinson Gymnasium in their set match of the evening.

Fitchburg State's Amy Coelho (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) registered a team-best 11 assists, three service aces, five digs and one kill to lead the way for the Falcons, while senior Nicole Sylvester (Everett, Mass./Everett) added 13 digs, three kills and two service aces.

Peirce continued her strong play as well for the Green and Gold, adding a match-best 20 digs, three assists and two service aces.

For Bay Path, junior Joanne Nazario (Springfield, Mass./Chicopee) finished with a team-leading 15 digs, while senior Lexi Cears (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) chipped in with 12 assists, five kills and one service ace.

The Falcons concluded the contest with 53-51 edge in digs, while the Wildcats held a 29-26 margin in kills.

Fitchburg State University travels to Newbury College on Thursday for a 7 pm match-up, while Framingham State will host Anna Mara and Eastern Connecticut in a tri-match on Saturday starting at 11:00 am. Bay Path hosts Eastern Nazarene on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
