Gary Blanchette - 1999 Inductee

Gary Blanchettte was a four-year member of the Fitchburg State baseball team and was a three-time All-Massachusetts State College athletic Conference performer as a pitcher and outfielder. In his first season as a Falcon, he batted .316 with 19 runs batted in and 17 runs scored. He pitched 20 innings and recorded a 1-2 record with 2.70 earned run average and 10 strikeouts.

As a sophomore, Gary enjoyed his most successful season and was named All-MASCAC First Team after posting a .452 batting average, 37 RBIs and 22 runs scored. He hit safely in all 26 games of the 1986 season including six homers, six doubles and a school-record six triples.

Gary was named to the All-MASCAC Second Team his junior year after batting .371 with 22 RBIs and 23 runs scored. He also connected for five homers, four triples, and six doubles.

In his senior season, Gary was named team captain and returned to the All-MASCAC First Team. The outfielder batted .392 with 33 RBIs and 21 runs scored. He also belted a school-record seven home runs and added two triples and three doubles. He also pitched 49.1 innings and recorded 26 strikeouts.

Gary owns seven Fitchburg State career records including games played (107), hits (141), runs batted in (111), runs scored (83), triples (12), home runs (21), and slugging percentage (.674). He is also second in doubles (18), third in batting average (.386) and games pitched (29).
