Falcons Fall to West Conn in MASCAC Action

Stanford rushes for 78 yards

Fitchburg, Mass.– The Fitchburg State University football team dropped a 48-13 decision to Western Connecticut State University this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon from Elliot Field.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 13, Western Connecticut State 48
Records: Fitchburg State (0-9, 0-7 MASCAC) | Western Connecticut State (5-5, 4-4 MASCAC)

How It Happened

Western Connecticut capitalized on great field position in the first frame for the game's first score. Starting at the Falcon's 35 yard line, the visitors used five plays and 2:19 on the clock en-route to a 9-yard run from quarterback Mack Driver (Mastic Beach, NY) for the touchdown.

On their next possession West Conn added another score after a muffed punt from the Falcons. Quarterback John Giller (Massapequa. NY) would hit freshman Julian Ferguson (Enfield, Conn.) from nine yards out, deep in the back corner for the 14-0 lead.

Trailing 28-0, the Falcons finally found the end zone at Elliot Field. The Green and Gold put together a 12-play, 78 yard drive capped with a 3-yard scamper from quarterback Joseph Haskins (Pepperell, Mass.). Running back Tehjerion Wade (Oakland, Calif.) had 43 yards on the ground including a 24-yard gain to the West Conn 4-yard line on the drive. Newcomer Justyn Stanford (Warrenton, Ga.) added a hard-fought 16-yards rushing for Fitchburg State.

Western Connecticut would tack on another score and hold a 35-7 lead at intermission.

Fitchburg State put together another strong drive in the third quarter. Starting from the Western Connecticut 29 yard line the Falcons chewed up yardage on the ground with Stanford in the backfield. On 4th and nine, the Green and Gold faked a punt and Haskins found freshman Sebastian Burnmester (Germantown, NY) for a 16-yard reception to move the chains to the 27-yard line. Five plays later a scrambling Haskins found sophomore Matthew Aguirre (Laredo, Tex.) in the endzone to push the score to 41-13.

Senior Michael Douglas (New Windsor, Conn.) rounded out the scoring for West Conn with a 22-yard rushing touchdown at 11:45 of the fourth quarter for the 48-13 final.
