Football Earns Worcester All-Area Honors

Falcons name two players to the 2021 Worcester All-Area Team 

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester Area Football Association has announced the 30th annual Steve "Merc" Morris All-Star Team as selected by the eight sports information directors of Worcester County who sponsor football.

Representing Fitchburg State on the Worcester All-Area Football Team were senior Rodny Bonhomme (Bridgeport, Conn.) and freshman Justyn Stanford (Warrenton, Ga.), who earned Worcester Area Football Association Second Team Honors.

Bonhomme posted a team-leading 49 tackles on 34 solo stops and 15 assisted tackles as well as 1.5 sacks, 4.5 TFL's, one interception and one pass break in ten contests for the Green and Gold, while Stanford finished second on the team in rushing yards with 177 on 45 carries and one touchdown as well as adding two catches for 15 yards and one score over seven games played.

The major award winners included senior running back Khaleed Exum-Strong (Norwichtown, Conn.) of Assumption as the Offensive Player of the Year while junior linebacker Jacob Dobbs (Macomb, Mich.) of Holy Cross was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Year.

Senior placekicker Derek Ng (Las Vegas, Nev.) of Holy Cross and junior defensive back Isaiah Huff (Windsor, Conn.) of Assumption earned Co-Special Teams Players of the Year, while sophomore wide receiver Ke'Vaughn Davis (Utica, N.Y.) of Worcester State was named Rookie of the Year. Dan Mulrooney of Anna Maria and Bob Chesney of Holy Cross rounded out the major award winners after being named Worcester Area Football Association Co-Coaches of the Year.

Now celebrating its 30th anniversary, the Worcester Area Football Association All-Star Team is named in memory of Steve "Merc" Morris, the longtime Assistant Director of Athletics for Media Relations and Assumption Hall of Famer. Morris was a 1972 graduate of Assumption and was a member of the athletics staff for 39 years before he passed away in January of 2011.

In addition to being the founder of the Worcester Area Association All-Star Program, Morris was a tireless supporter of collegiate athletics and had a key role in the lives of thousands of student-athletes.
