Dunn collects five saves for Green and Gold in first collegiate start

Danbury, Conn. – The Fitchburg State University Field Hockey team suffered a 4-0 setback setback to the Colonials of Western Connecticut State this evening in Little East Conference (LEC) action from the WAC.

How It Happened

Western Connecticut State opened the scoring in the 23rd minute of action as sophomore Alessia Callahan (Glassboro, N.J.) connected on her fourth tally of the season for the 1-0 margin. The Colonials doubled their lead at the 27:59 mark when senior Olivia Moore (New Preston, Conn.) received a feed from junior Samantha Dultz (Belvidere, N.J.) and netted her first tally of the 2021 campaign to the make the score 2-0 going into the break.

Following the intermission, Western Connecticut State upped their advantage (3-0) at the 35:40 mark with sophomore Sydney Chenoweth (Baldwinville, Mass.) finding the back of the cage for her third tally of the year off an assist from Moore.

The Colonials secured the victory in the 54th minute of play when Callahan slide a pass over to newcomer Regiane Silva (Danbury, Conn.), who proceeded to deposit a shot into the right side of the cage for her second goal on the season, resulting in the 4-0 final.

This afternoon's contest marked the 15th meeting between the two squads in the sport of field hockey with the Falcons 8-7 all time when taking on the Colonials

Western Connecticut State has won the previous three matchups against Fitchburg State, including a 5-0 decision in the last meeting on September 25, 2019.

Western Connecticut held a 17-6 margin in shots, while also finishing with a 10-3 advantage in penalty corners

Sophomore Cheyenne Dunn (Holyoke, Mass.) made five saves for the Falcons in her first career start in the cage
