Kassel notches first four collegiate tallies for Green and Gold
Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University Field Hockey team opened its 2022 season this morning, defeating the Amcats of Anna Maria College, 4-0 in non-conference action from Elliot Field.

How It Happened
Fitchburg State opened the scoring at the 13:29 mark of the first quarter when freshman Lena Kassel (Stuttgart, Germany) collected a feed from senior Grace Kerr (Holliston, Mass.) and fired a shot inside the near post for her first collegiate tally to make the score 1-0.
The Falcons doubled their lead (2-0) in the 16th minute of action as Kassel struck for her second score of the contest. The Green and Gold upped its advantage at the 18:32 mark of the second quarter with Kassel blasting a shot into the right side of the cage for 3-0 edge. The hosts pushed the lead to 4-0 going into the break when junior Jessica Morse (Leominster, Mass.) slide a pass over the Kassel, who deposited the ball inside the lower left corner for the 4-0 lead.
Following the break, Anna Maria threatened late in the fourth frame when junior Eden Forget (Worcester, Mass.) and sophomore Carly Drew (Rochester, N.Y.) put shots on target, but Falcon keeper Jenna Morse (Leominster, Mass.) denied both shots to preserve the 4-0, shutout victory.
