Falcons Upended By Lancers In LEC Action

Ganley and Alto register one defensive save each for Green and Gold

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University Field Hockey team suffered a tough 4-1 setback to the visiting Lancers of Worcester State University this afternoon in Little East Conference (LEC) action from Elliot Field

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 1, Worcester State 4

Records: Fitchburg State (3-4, 1-2 LEC) | Worcester State (5-3, 2-0 LEC)

How It Happened

Worcester State opened the scoring at the 11:13 mark of the first quarter as junior Grace Adams (Leominster, Mass.) collected a loose ball in front of the cage and slipped a shot into the right side of the net for her second goal on the year for the 1-0 edge.

Fitchburg State nearly knotted the score in the 23rd minute of action when Adams fired back-to-back shots on target, but Falcon keeper Jenna Morse (Leominster, Mass.) turned the first shot aside before junior Sydney Alto (Chelmsford, Mass.) added a defensive save.

Following the break, the Lancers doubled (2-0) their advantage at the 34:16 mark with junior Zoe Atlanasopoulos (Hopedale, Mass.) settled her own rebound and struck for her third marker on the year.

Worcester State extended the lead to 4-0 at the 43:59 mark when senior Karalyn Jones (Wilbraham, Mass.) notched her team-leading fifth score of the 2022 campaign. Fitchburg State found the back of the cage ten minutes later as senior Grace Kerr (Holliston, Mass.) received a feed from freshman Lena Kassel (Stuttgart, Germany) and classmate Olivia Narkevicius (Phillipston, Mass.) and tipped home a shot for her fourth of the season, resulting in the 4-1 final.
