Field Hockey Upended By Chargers In Non-Conference Action
Morse turns aside ten shots for Green and Gold
Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State field hockey team opened their 2023 season this afternoon, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College in non-conference action from Elliot Field.

How It Happened
Colby-Sawyer took a 1-0 edge in the 15th minute of action as junior Sabrina Lippold (Windham, N.H.) settled a loose ball off a rebound in front of the cage and deposited a shot inside the far post for her first tally of the season.
Fitchburg State nearly knotted the score early in the second period with sophomore Olivia Narkevicius (Phillipston, Ma) redirecting a shot that went just outside the near post. The Chargers doubled the advantage at the 27:18 marker when freshman Ryleigh LaPure (Leicester, Vt.) collected a feed from classmate Mikayla Thornton (Lebanon, NH) and tucked the ball into the lower left corner for her first collegiate marker for the 2-0 lead going into the break.
Following the intermission, Colby-Sawyer pushed the lead to 3-0 with just under a minute and a half remaining in the third quarter with freshman Aili Carney (Derry, NH) finding the back of the cage for her first career goal.
