McGrath stops 37 shots for Green and Gold

Hooksett, N.H. – The Fitchburg State ice hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Falcons of Albertus Magnus this evening in first round action of the 2021-22 Southern New Hampshire Stovepipe Tournament at the Ice Den Arena.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 0, Albertus Magnus 3
Records: Fitchburg State (4-2-0, 3-1-0 MASCAC) | Albertus Magnus (3-4-0)

How It Happened

Albertus Magnus opened the scoring at the 14:11 mark of the first period as freshman Colt Corpse (Fort Wayne, Ind.) blasted a shot from the left circle into the back of the net for his first collegiate goal off an assist from junior Dino Antoniadis (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) for the 1-0 edge.

Albertus Magnus doubled their lead with three and half minutes remaining in the middle stanza when junior Charles Risk (Medicine Hat, Alberta) gathered a feed from freshman Ryan Colwell (Plainedge, N.Y.) and deposited the puck inside the near post for his first marker on the year to make the score 2-0.

The Blue and White upped its advantage roughly one and half minutes later with newcomer Sam Anderson (Calgary, Alberta) finding the back of the net for his second score of the 2021-22 campaign as junior Harley Michaels (Kirkland, Quebec) assisted on the play for the 3-0 lead going into the final period of play.

In the final period of play, Fitchburg State nearly dented the score board two minutes into the frame as junior Zachary Cormier (Fitchburg, Mass.) and freshman Oliver Cookson (Sheffield, Mass.) put back-to-back shots on target, but Albertus Magnus keeper Logan Bateman (Ottawa, Ontario) denied both shots to preserve the 3-0 final.
