How It Happened

In a back and forth affair the Falcons took the first lead on a goal from junior Rece Bergeman (Newark, Del) off a feed from junior Gene Bouthiette (Enfield, CT) and first-year Thomas Harty (Billerica, Mass.). The Vikings answered with just five ticks remaining in the first period as freshman Matthew Young (Harland, Wisc.) notched an unassisted score to even the match after one frame.

Later in the period junior Hunter Fortin (Westerville, OH) extended the lead (3-1) with his team-leading eighth goal of the season. The hosts would get one back off the stick of Erik Larsson (Lake Tahoe, Calif.) to trail 3-2 headed to the third.

Fitchburg State's Trent Shanley (Hillsdale, NJ) pushed the Falcons to another two-goal lead (4-2) at the 7:04 mark of the stanza. After Salem's Jacob Thomason (Youngstown, NY) cut the deficit to 4-3 the Green and Gold answered with a pair of insurance goals from junior Anthony Ceolin (Simsbury, Conn.) and sophomore Cole Archambeault (Leominster, Mass.) for the 6-3 final.
