Falcons Extend Past Lancers, 3-2

Ceolin leads the way with two goals for the Green and Gold

Worcester, Mass. – The Fitchburg State ice hockey team defeated the Lancers of Worcester State University, 3-2 this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State opened the scoring just 2:23 into the first frame as junior Anthony Ceolin (Simsbury, Conn.) received a feed from classmate Hunter Fortin (Westerville, Ohio) and tucked a shot inside the near post with the man advantage for his fifth marker on the season to make the score 1-0.

The Falcons doubled their margin at the 11:00 minute mark with Ceolin wiristing a shot into the upper left corner for his second score of the contest for the 2-0 edge.

In the middle stanza, the Green and Gold extended its lead (3-0) four minutes into the period with junior Rece Bergeman (Newark, Del.) tucking a shot into the right side of the net for his seven tally of the year off an assist from junior Gene Bouthiette (Enfield, Conn.).

Worcester State broke its scoring silence with just under a minute and half to play in the second period when junior Deiter Stange (Niles, Ill.) collected a pass from sophomore Brian Clougherty (Lynn, Mass.), who proceed to net his third goal of the 2021-22 campaign to cut the lead to 3-1, going into the third period.

In the final period of play, the Lancers reduced the lead to 3-2, 3:35 into the period as senior Nick Pennucci (Worcester, Mass.) buried a shot into the lower right corner for his third tally of the year with an assist from sophomore Jack Kroll (Plainfield, Ill.), but that's as close as Worcester State would get as the Falcons held on for the 3-2 victory.
