McGrath Named 2021-22 NE DII/III Hockey Writers All-Star

Worcester, Mass. native among pair of MASCAC honorees

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Senior goaltender Brian McGrath (Worcester, Mass.) was recently selected to the 2021-22 New England Hockey Writers Association DII/III All-Star Team as announced by the NE Hockey Writers Association on Wednesday.

McGrath notches his second post-season accolade on the season after leading the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) in GAA with a 1.98 goals against average and save percentage (.938), while totaling 605 saves and a win percentage of .725 en-route to a 14-5-1 overall record. For his efforts, Brian was also named to the MASCAC All-Conference First Team as well as a 2022 Joe Concannon Smei-Finalist.

The New England Hockey Writers Association will host the awards reception on Thursday, May 5th, at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Mass. The event will include not only the New England Writers' honorees, but will also serve to present the recipients of the Walter Brown Award and the Joe Concannon Award, given by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston, to the top American-born Hockey Player in New England in DI and DIII respectively. In addition, the Eastern Massachusetts Ice Hockey Officials will present the J. Thom Lawler Award.

The event will be streamlined to allow attendees an enjoyable reunion of the New England hockey community, starting with food and beverage at 6:00 pm., with the awards presentation to begin at 7:00 pm. The Fitchburg State ice hockey team concluded the 2021-22 campaign with an overall record of 17-6-1 and a 14-3-1 clip within conference play.
