Ice Hockey Collects 3-1 Victory Over Lancers On Senior Day

Soderberg makes 31 saves for Green and Gold

Fitchburg, Mass. The Fitchburg State ice hockey team defeated the Lancers of Worcester State, 3-1 this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on senior day from the Wallace Civic Center.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State grabbed a 1-0 lead midway through the first period as freshman Adam Nedelka (Srch, Czech Republic) gathered a feed from graduate student Antoine Gignac (Quebec City, QUE) and freshman Alexandre Bauvais (Meudon, France) and connected on his fourth marker on the season.

Worcester State knotted the score at 1-1 with just over a minute remaining in the opening stanza when junior Martin Dlugolinsky (Stata Lubovna, Slovakia) found the back of the net for his sixth tally of the year.

Following a scoreless middle frame, the Falcons regained the lead at the 14:30 mark of the third period with newcomer Michael Imala (Oak Lawn, IL) depositing a shot inside the near post for his team-leading tenth mark of the 2023-24 campaign with an assist from Gignac to make the score 2-1.

The Green and Gold secured the victory with 25 seconds left in regulation as newcomer Hunter Dunn (Douglas, MA) receiving a pass from classmate Kristopher Zapata (Cherry Hill, NJ) and Nedelka and firing a shot into an empty net for his fifth score on the year, resulting in the 3-1 final.

Prior to the contest, the Fitchburg State ice hockey team honored their two seniors, Cole Archambeault (Leominster, MA) and Antoine Gignac (Quebec City, QUE), for their contributions to the program.
