Ice Hockey Falls to Plymouth in MASCAC Championship

PLYMOUTH, NH: Fitchburg State ice hockey fell to Plymouth State in the MASCAC Championship this evening.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/2/24

- Score: Plymouth 3, Fitchburg 0

- Records: Plymouth (23-2-2), Fitchburg (15-10-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Panthers had control of this contest from the opening puck drop. Although only scoring one goal in the first period, Plymouth racked up 14 shots to just three for Fitchburg. The Panthers went up 1-0 at 16:38 into the first on a goal by Payton Schaly.

- Plymouth would add to their lead with the last two goals of the contest in the second period. The Panthers again outshot the Falcons in this one 16-to-3. Connor Tait scored the first of the period just 3:49 in. The final score came in the 14th minute from Jeromey Rancourt.

- Frederick Soderberg (Harrison Township, MI) (L, 9-6) was tagged with the loss for the Falcons, although playing an impressive game in which he saved 38 shots. Kalle Andersson (W, 20-2-1) was perfect on the night, making 13 saves on 13 shots faced.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shots: Plymouth 41, Fitchburg 13

-  Penalties: Fitchburg had 12 minutes on 6 infractions. Plymouth had 8 minutes on 4 infractions.

-  Power Plays: Plymouth was 1-for-5. Fitchburg was 0-for-3
