Falcon Soar Past MCLA in MASCAC Match-up, 3-2

 



North Adams, Mass. - The Fitchburg State men's soccer team clawed out a 3-2 victory over the Trailblazers of MCLA this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Shewcraft Field.

The Basics

How It Happened 

The Falcons tipped the twine first in the opening frame. In just the 8th minute of play senior Gabriel Ramos (Chicopee, Mass.) one-timed a rebound past Trailblazers netminder Sam Edge (Williamstown, Mass.) for his first tally of the season.

MCLA would tie the score in the second half. In the 65th minute senior Colin Rousseau (Cheshire, Mass.) threaded a pass to sophomore James Murchinson (Malverne, NY) who tucked it inside the far post to even the score.

Fitchburg State would respond just two minutes later when senior Sean Nugent (Dracut, Mass.) headed his first of the season off a direct kick from Ramos at midfield. MCLA quickly countered with a goal from Rousseau to make it a 2-2 game.

Falcons' Joshua Atemkeng (Peabody, Mass.) knocked in the game-winner when the MCLA defense gave up a juicy rebound, the junior lofted the ball into an empty net for his second of the season.

  • MCLA held the advantage in shots (15-7) and corners (7-4).
