Jaramillo stops 16 shots for Green and Gold

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's soccer suffered a tough 1-0 setback to the Panthers of Plymouth State University this evening in non-conference action from Elliot Field.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 0, Plymouth State 1

How It Happened

Fitchburg State nearly opened the scoring midway through the first half when freshman Fabian Mendoza-Toledo (Springfield, Va.) put a point blank shot on target, but Plymouth State keeper Nicholas Cornejo (Durham, N.H.) turned the shot aside.

Plymouth State's best scoring opportunity of the frame occurred in the 43rd minute of play as freshman August Westerholm (Stockholm, Sweden) fired a shot only to have Falcon netminder Sebastian Jaramillo (Dracut, Mass.) make the save to preserve the 0-0 stalemate, going into the break.

Following the intermission, the Panthers took the lead at the 66:28 mark with freshman Nolan McMann (Millville, Mass.) settling a feed from sophomore Falsal Abdallah (Concord, N.H.) and deposited the ball inside the left post for his first collegiate goal to make the score 1-0.

The Falcons cut into the deficit in the 56th minute of play as junior Joshua Atemkeng (Peabody, Mass.) settle a loose ball off a rebounded shot from freshman Joseph Haggerty (North Billerica, Mass.) and proceeded to deposit his shot into the lower left corner for his first tally of the year to make the score 2-1.
