Falcons Excel At Branwen Smith-King Invite

Medford, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team continued its 2021-22 season this afternoon, placing fifth overall with a total of 50 points 2021-22 Branwen Smith-King Invitational, hosted by Tufts University.

How It Happened

Junior Nathaniel Felix (Worcester, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons after placing first overall in the 60 meter dash with a DIII New England qualifying time of 7.03 seconds, while adding a first place, DIII NE qualifying time of 23.10 seconds in the 200 meter.

Sophomore Taban Manyok (Lynn, Mass.) was also strong for the Green and Gold, notching a first place effort in the 5000 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 15:47.17, while in the 800 meter, senior Nicholas Sachetta (Billerica, Mass.) and newcomer Aidan Cattelan (West Hartford, Conn.) finished third and fifth with post-season qualifying times of 2:07.52 and 2:12.50 respectively.

In the 200 meter, sophomore Jeremy Allik (Natick, Mass.) (5th) and freshman Edward Paiva (Taunton, Mass.) (20th) posted times of 23.89 seconds and 25.65 second with Allik also qualifying for the MASCAC's, while junior Benjamin Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) posted a post-season qualifying time of 9.24 second with an eighth place finish in the 60 meter hurdles. 

In the field, Sacramone notched a MASCAC qualifying mark of 1.75 meters in the high after placing seventh overall, while in the long jump, Sacramone (6th) and newcomer Anthony Perry (Gardner, Mass.) (14th) turned in marks of 5.86m and 4.94m as Sacramone added his third post-season qualifying mark on the afternoon.

In the weight throw, freshman Nicholas Zeoli (Plymouth, Mass.) (11.72m), classmate Cameron Cunningham (Berkley, Mass.) (11.14m) and junior Zanthius Collins (Franklin, Mass.) (10.64m) placed 13th, 15th and 16th respectively to all qualify for the post-season, while Zeoli (9th), Collins (13th) and Cunningham (14th) added MASCAC qualifying tosses of 13.21m, 12.19m and 11.71m in the shot put.

Rounding out the top Falcon efforts on the day were Perry with tenth mark of 10.79 meters in the triple jump, while junior Cameron Davis (Gardner, Mass.) turned in a time of 5:00.24 in the mile after placing 16th overall.
