Falcons Finish Third At 2022 MASCAC Indoor Championships

Manyok, Zeoli and Shimiyimana capture MASCAC individual crowns

Norton, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team placed third overall with a total of 113 points at the 2021-22 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Beard Field House on the campus of Wheaton College.

How It Happened

Sophomore Nicholas Zeoli (Plymouth, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons, placing first overall in the shotput with a DIII NE qualifying toss of 14.04 meters, while junior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.) took top honors in the triple jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 13.57 meters.

Junior Nathaniel Felix (Worcester, Mass.) was also solid for the Green and Gold, turning in a DIII NE qualifying time of 51.31 seconds in the 400 meter after finishing second, while sophomore Taban Manyok (Lynn, Mass.) (1st) and senior Trevor Fields (Shirley, Mass.) (2nd) posted times of 2:03.59 and 2:05.59 in the 800 meter.

In the 60 meter hurdles, juniors Benjamin Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) (9.29) and Adam Digman (Winchendon, Mass.) (9.31) placed fifth and sixth respectively, while in the 200 meter, Felix (2nd) and sophomore Jeremy Allik (Natick, Mass.) (6th) posted times of 23.22 seconds and 23.64 seconds.

In the 1000 meter senior Nicholas Sachetta (Billerica, Mass.) (3rd) and junior Tyssen LaBombard (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) (6th) posted times of 2:44.80 and 3:01.33, while newcomer Edward Paiva (Taunton, Mass.) posted a fourth place time of 1:32.26 in the 600 meter.

The 4x200 meter relay team of Paiva, Felix, Allik and sophomore Andrew Bedard (Rutland, Mass.) placed second with time of 1:39.89, while Allik (6th) and Felix (7th) notched times of 7.37 seconds and 7.47 seconds in the 60 meter.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Allik, Felis, Paiva and freshman Jhoary Catalan-Flores (Raleigh, N.C.) placed third with a time of 3:55.12, while the 4x800 meter relay team of Sachetta, LaBombard, Fields and freshman Aidan Cattelan (West Hartford, Conn.) posted a third place time of 9:19.69. With all three relay team netting spots on the All-MASCAC Team.

In the field, senior Rodney Bonhomme (Bridgeport, Conn.) (8th) and junior Zanthius Collins (Franklin, Mass.) (10th) notched tosses of 11.83 meters and 10.34 meters in the weight throw, while Collins added a fourth place toss of 12.97 meters in the shotput.

In the high jump, Sacramone finished third overall with a mark of 1.80 meters, while Sacramone (11th) and freshman Anthony Perry (Gardner, Mass.) (12th) rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the day with marks of 5.37m and 5.09m in the long jump..
