Falcons Soar At Panther Invitational II

Monette and Shimiyimana post DIII NE qualifying marks for Green and Gold

Plymouth, NH – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team placed fourth at the 2024 Panther Invitational II with a total of 79 points today, hosted by Plymouth State at the Bank of New Hampshire Field House.

How It Happened

Junior Cameron Monette (Winchendon, MA) led the way for the Falcons, placing first overall in the weight throw with a DIII New England qualifying toss of 14.94 meters, third in the shot put with a throw of 12.76 meters and 32nd in the 60 meter with a time of 7.92 seconds, while senior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, MA) finished second in the triple jump with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 13.53 meters and sixth in the long jump (6.14m).

Freshman Tyler Kwamo (Auburn, MA) continued his solid rookie campaign, taking top honors in the high jump with a mark of 1.85 meters, ninth in the long jump (5.75m) and fourth in the triple jump (11.97m), while senior Nathaniel Felix (Worcester, MA) finished fifth in the 60 meter (7.23) and fifth in the 200 meter (23.74).

In the 60 meter, freshman Keenan Ansah (Plymouth, MA) (12th) and classmate Jaiden Madden (Lynn, MA) (26th) posted times of 7.40 and 7.71 seconds, while graduate student Cameron Davis (Gardner, MA) (17:31.07) and junior Casey LaCombe (Worcester, MA) (18:30.46) placed 12th and 20th in the 5000 meter.

Freshman Matthew Gill (Ayer, MA) turned in a 14th place time of 11.58 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles, while in the 400 meter, freshman Jesse Moriello (Saugus, MA) (13th), classmate Matt Telson (Everett, MA) (18th) and junior Matthew Radder (West Seneca, NY) (22nd) posted times of 55.26, 56.59 and 1:00.10.

In the mile, sophomore Michael Burns (Worcester, MA) (4:54.10) and junior Joshua Leaffer (North Andover, MA) (5:42.44) placed ninth and 12th, while sophomore Brady Madigan (Ayer, MA) (15th) and Gill (20th) turned times of 2:18.20 and 2:32.52 in the 800 meter. In the 1000 meter, junior Cristian Bueno Campos (Lawrence, MA) (2:54.18) and senior Tyssen LaBombard (Shelburne Fall, MA) (2:56.02) finished sixth and eighth, while Ansah (10th), Moriello (22nd) and Madden (27th) notched times of 24.08, 25.22 and 25.98 seconds.

In the field, Ansah placed fourth overall in the long jump with a mark of 6.20 meters, while sophomore Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) (2nd) and freshman John Koutsouoa (Birdsboro, PA) (21st) notched tosses of 14.03m and 8.44m in the weight throw. In the shot put, Bourassa (12.63m) and Koutsouoa (11.84m) placed fourth and ninth, while newcomer Maximus Lajoie (Worcester, MA) posted a seventh place mark of 10.85 meters in the triple jump.

The 4x800 meter relay team of Telson, LaBombard, Davis and senior Andrew Bedard (Rutland, MA) turned in a fourth place time of 9:02.34 to round out the top Falcon efforts on the day.
