Falcons Open 2022 Season At BSU Bears Invite

Felix notches pair of DIII NE qualifying times for Green and Gold

Bridgewater, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track and field team opened its 2022 season this afternoon as the Falcons competed at the 2022 BSU Bears Invitational at Swenson Field.

How It Happened

Junior Nathaniel Felix (Worcester, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons, placing second overall in the 100 meter with a DIII NE qualifying time of 11.15 seconds, while adding a DII New England qualifying time of 22.50 seconds in the 200 meters after taking top honors in the event.

Sophomore Nicholas Zeoli (Plymouth, Mass.) was also solid for the Green and Gold, finishing seventh in the shot put with DIII NE qualifying toss of 13.52 meters, while junior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.) finished second in the triple jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 13.21 meters

In the 100 meter, sophomore Jeremy Allik (Natick, Mass.) (11.71) and freshman Shaki Auston (Springfield, Mass.) (11.93) placed 12th and 20th, while Allik added a ninth place finish in the 200 meter with a MASCAC qualifying time of 23.74 seconds.

Senior Nicholas Sachetta (Billerica, Mass.) turned in a post-season qualifying time of 2:05.35 in the 800 meter after placing seventh, while junior Benjamin Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) finished eighth in the 400 meter hurdles with a MASCAC qualifying time of 1:08.53.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Auston, Felix, Allik and freshman Edward Paiva (Taunton, Mass.) finished fourth overall with a time of 44.87, while Sacramone finished 13th in the high jump with a poste-season qualifying mark of 1.75 meters.

In the field, junior Gene Bouthiette (Enfield, Conn.) turned in a MASCAC qualifying mark of 3.40 meter with a seventh place effort in the pole vault, while Shimiyimana finished tenth overall in the long jump with a post-season qualifying mark of 5.97 meters

Freshman Anthony Perry (Gardner, Mass.) placed eighth in the triple jump with a post-season qualifying mark of 10.50 meters, while in the discus, Zeoli (39.34m) and freshman Cameron Cunnigham (Berkley, Mass.) (30.78m) posted MASCAC qualifying tosses after finishing fifth and 20th respectively.

In the hammer throw, Zeoli (4th) and senior Rodney Bonhomme (Bridgeport, Conn.) (8th) posted MASCAC qualifying throws of 40.15 meters and 37.62 meters, while Cunningham rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the day with a 27th place throw of 29.56 meters in the hammer throw.
