Falcons Excel At Monks Invitational

Collins posts DIII NE qualifying toss of 51.19 meters in the Javelin

Standish, Maine. – The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track and field team returned to action this afternoon, placing sixth overall with a total of 65 points at the 2022 Monks Invitational, hosted by Saint Joseph's College of Maine this afternoon.

How It Happened

Junior Zanthius Collins (Franklin, Mass.) led the way for the Green and Gold, placing second overall in the javelin with a DIII New England qualifying toss of 51.19 meters, while adding a fourth place effort in the discus with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 36.21 meters

Senior Nicholas Sachetta (Billerica, Mass.) was also solid for the Falcons, posting a pair of MASCAC qualifying times in the 3000 meter steeple chase (3rd) (10.42.84) and the 400 meter (6th) (54.32), while junior Gene Bouthiette (Enfield, Conn.) finished third in the pole vault with a post-season qualifying height of 3.40 meters.

In the 100 meter, freshman Shaki Auston (Springfield, Mass.) (11.53) and sophomore Jeremy Allik (Natick, Mass.) (11.78) placed sixth and 12th respectively to qualify for the post-season, while in the 1500 meter, sophomore Taban Manyok (Lynn, Mass.) (3rd), newcomer Aidan Cattelan (West Hartford, Conn.) (13th) and Christian Bueno-Campos (15th) turned in MASCAC qualifying times of 4:17.29, 4:37.66and 4:38.52.

Junior Benjamin Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) turned in a MASCAC qualifying time of 17.94 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles after placing third, while in the 800 meter Bueno-Campos placed ninth overall with a post-season qualifying time of 2:04.00.

In the field, freshman Cameron Cunningham (Berkley, Mass.) posted a post-season qualifying toss of 12.07 meter with a fourth place finish in the shot put, while Sacramone finished fifth in the high jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 1.70 meters.

Auston turned in a ninth place finish in the long jump with a MASCAC qualifying mark of 5.90 meters, while freshman Anthony Perry (Gardner, Mass.) finished ninth in the triple jump with a post-season qualifying jump of 11.04 meters.

In the hammer throw, Cunningham collected his second post-season qualifying mark in the hammer throw (3rd) with a personal best toss of 40.19 meters, while Collins place sixth (34.69m) to also qualify for the MASCAC's. Allik rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the day, finishing eighth in the 200 meter with a post-season qualifying time of 23.91 seconds.
