Falcons Place 23rd At DIII NE Championships

Shimiyimana and Collins earn DIII All-NE honors

Williamstown, Mass. -  The Fitchburg State Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Teams returned to action this afternoon, competing in the 2022 DIII New England Regional Championships, hosted by Williams College as the men placed 23rd overall with a total of nine points.

How It Happened

Junior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons, placing fifth overall in the triple jump to earn DIII All NE honors with a new school record mark of 13.96 meters to qualify for the All New England Championships, while classmate Zanthius Collins (Franklin, Mass.) notched DIII All NE honors as well with a fourth place toss of 56.54 meters in the javelin to also qualify for the All-New England Championships, while setting a new PR in the process

The 4x800 meter relay team of Collins, senior Nicholas Sachetta (Billerica, Mass.), junior Tyssen LaBombard (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) and freshman Christian Bueno-Campos turned in a 13th place time of 8:39.27, while sophomore Zion Barber-Amado (Boston, Mass.) added 24th place effort of 16.17 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles.

For the women, newcomer Ephemian Bailey (Maple Grove, Minn.) put forth a solid throw of 31.72 meters in the discus after finishing 23rd overall in the event.
