Bourassa qualifies for All-NE's in the discus and javelin

New London, CT – The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track & field team placed seventh with a total of 43 points at the 2024 Silfen Invitational this weekend, hosted by Connecticut College.

How It Happened

Sophomore Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) paced the Falcons, taking top honors in the javelin (64.91M) and second in the discus (46.02M) to qualify for All-New England's in both events as well as finishing fifth in the hammer throw (49.12M) and fifth in the shotput (13.57M) to qualify for DIII NE's in the hammer throw and shotput.

Senior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, MA) was also solid for the Green and Gold, finishing third in the triple jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 13.50 meters and seventh in the long jump (6.19M), while freshman Tyler Kwamo (Auburn, MA) finished third in the high jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 1.87 meters and 11th in the triple jump (12.14M).

In the 400 meter, freshman Keenan Ansah (Plymouth, MA) (16th) and sophomore Brady Madigan (Ayer, MA) (34th) posted times of 53.57 and 56.06 seconds, while senior Nathaniel Felix (Worcester, MA) (11.42) and newcomer Jaiden Madden (Lynn, MA) (11.89) finished 13th and 38th respectively.

Felix (25th) and Madden (46th) posted times of 23.61 and 24.68 seconds in the 200 meter, while in the 3000 meter steeple chase, sophomore Michael Burns (Worcester, MA) (10:59.28), senior Tyssen LaBombard (Shelburne Falls, MA) (12:02.62) and senior Andrew Bedard (Rutland, MA) (12:04.87) placed 16th, 21st and 22nd.

In the 800 meter, freshman Matt Telson (Everett, MA) (66th) and Bedard (75th) notched times of 2:15.49 and 2:24.52, while graduate student Cameron Davis (Gardner, MA) (4:35.71), junior Joshua Leaffer (North Andover, MA) (5:15.68) and junior Aidan Cattelan (West Hartford, CT) (5:17.59) placed 58th, 73rd and 74th in the 1500 meter.

Burns (38th), Davis (45th) and senior Elijah Stathis (Northampton, MA) (49th) registered times of 16:59.07, 17:52.28 and 18:27.70 in the 5000 meter, while freshman Matthew Gill (Ayer, MA) finished 24th in the 110 meter hurdles (22.73) and 22nd in the 400 meter hurdles (1:09.92).

In the field, freshman John Koutsouoa (Birdsboro, PA) (15th) and junior Cameron Monette (Winchendon, MA) (17th) registered throws of 11.97M and 11.74M in the shotput, while in the hammer throw, Monette (43.05) and Koutsouoa (26.73M) finished ninth and 32nd overall.

In the discus, Koutsouoa finished 37th overall with a throw of 28.55 meters, while Ansah registered a sixth place finish of 6.25 meters in the long jump. In the javelin, freshman Cameron Farley (Westminster, MA) placed 22nd with a throw of 36.91 meters.
