Falcons Drop Pair Of Conference Tilts To Rams

Framingham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University softball team dropped a pair of contests to the Rams of Framingham State University this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Maple Street Field by the scores of 8-1 and 3-2.

How It Happened

Game One

Framingham State took a 1-0 edge in the top of the first as senior Camille Desrochers (Westford, Mass.) drew a lead-off walk, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI double by junior Gwendolyn Carpenter (Ashley Falls, Mass.).

The Rams upped their lead in the bottom of the third when junior Zoe Smyth (Cambridge, Mass.) laced a two run single through the right side, while sophomore Megan Poli (Cumberland, R.I.) added an RBI base knock to make the score 6-0.

Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 6-1 in the top of fifth with sophomore Dana Cisowski (Torrington, Conn.) reaching on a fielding miscue, moved to second on a ground and crossed the plate as senior Audrey Johnson (Fitchburg, Mass.) ripped a double down the right field line.

Framingham State secured the victory in the bottom of sixth as freshman Brooke Grassia (Danvers, Mass.) singled and later scored on a throwing miscue before junior Mercedes Jimenez (Cambridge, Mass.) added an RBI single, resulting in the 8-1 final.

Inside the Numbers

  • Johnson paced the Falcons, going, 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI
  • Carpenter went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI
  • Junior Sarah Cahill (Mansfield, Mass.) took the loss for Fitchburg State, allowing four earned runs on ten hits with three strikeouts in four innings of work
  • Junior Ally Moran (Wilmington, Mass.) collected the win for Framingham State, giving up one unearned run on one hit with six K's over six innings pitched

Game Two

In game two, Fitchburg State grabbed a 1-0 margin in the top of the second with freshman Isabella Sousa (Charlton, Mass.) doubled to right, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by senior Morgan Cormier (Leominster, Mass.) and scored on a throwing miscue.

Framingham State knotted the score (1-1) in the bottom of the third when freshman Shelby Roode (Ashaway, Penn.) singled, moved to second and third on back-to-back walks and came around to score on a ground out.

The Rams grabbed the lead in the bottom half of the fifth with Roode singling in Desroche, while Roode later crossed the plate on a fielding miscue for the 3-1 advantage. The Falcons answered in the top of the seventh when junior Molly Grass (Rockland, Mass.) singled and scored as newcomer Ella Marshall (Gloucester, Mass.) doubled to right, but that's as close as the Green and Gold would get as Framingham State held on for the 3-2 final.
