Falcons Sweep Trailblazers In Regular Season Finale

Marshall, Johnson and Cisowski lead Green and Gold to conference sweep

North Adams, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University softball team earned a sweep of conference rival MCLA this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletics Conference (MASCAC) action from the MCLA Softball Field.

How It Happened

Game One

MCLA opened the scoring in the bottom of the third as senior Nicole Main (Bennington, Vt.) singled to left field, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on an RBI double from freshman Lidia Flores (Menifee, Calif.) for the 1-0 edge.

Fitchburg State knotted the score at 1-1 in the top of the fifth when sophomore Dana Cisowski (Torrington, Conn.) doubled to left field and eventually crossed the plate on an RBI single off the bat of junior Sarah Cahill (Mansfield, Mass.).

The Trailblazers regained the lead in their half of the fifth with Main drawing a walk, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on a base knock from junior Madison Teta (Troy, N.Y.) to make the score 2-1.

The Falcons took the lead back for good in the top of the sixth when newcomer Ella Marshall (Gloucester, Mass.) singled to third, moved to second and third on a ground out and a passed before Cisowski laced an RBI single to center, while freshman Julia Gauvin (Granby, Mass.) followed with a run scoring double to center, resulting in the 4-2, game one victory.

Inside the Numbers

  • Cisowski led the way for the Falcons, going a perfect 4-of-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI
  • For the Trailblazers, Flores finished 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI
  • Cahill collected the win for Fitchburg State, allowing two runs on four hits with nine K's in the complete game effort
  • Flores took the loss for MCLA, giving up four runs on six hits with two strikeouts in three innings of relief

Game Two

In game two, Fitchburg State raced out to an early 11-0 advantage in the top of the first frame as senior Audrey Johnson (Fitchburg, Mass.) registered a bases clearing double, while classmate Lundyn Forcier (Woonsocket, R.I.) followed with a two-run single. Marshall, Cisowski, Gauvin, senior Morgan Cormier (Leominster, Mass.) and freshman Isabella Sousa (Charlton, Mass.) also added RBI's in the stanza.

MCLA cut the lead to 11-2 in the bottom of the second with newcomer Lora Woyton (Attleboro, Mass.) driving in Teta, while classmate Ezmeralda Albright (Loves Park, Ill.) crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

The Falcons secured the victory in the top of the third as Sousa, junior Molly Grass (Rockland, Mass.) and Cisowski notched RBI base hits, while Marshall added a bases loaded double to drive in three, resulting in the 19-4 final.
