Falcons Edged By Rams In MASCAC Opening Round

Cisowski notches pair of hits for Green and Gold

Framingham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University softball team dropped a tough 5-3 decision to the Rams of Framingham State University in opening round action of the 2022 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Post-Season Tournament this afternoon from the Maple Street Field.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State grabbed the lead in the top of the second as senior Lundyn Forcier (Woonsocket, R.I.) singled to left field before classmate Morgan Cormier (Leominster, Mass.) laced a run scoring double to right center to bring in Forcier for the 1-0 edge..

Framingham State knotted the score at 1-1 in their half of the second with sophomore Kelsey McGull (East Longmeadow, Mass.) doubling to left and crossing the plate on an RBI single from junior Grace Swanson (Lincoln, R.I.).

The Rams took the lead in the bottom of the third frame when freshman Brooke Grassia (Danvers, Mass.) singled to right field, stole second, moved to third on Shelby Roode (Ashaway, R.I.) single and scored on a McGull ground out to make the score 2-1.

The Falcons answered in the top of the fifth as newcomer Ella Marshall (Gloucester, Mass.) singled to short, advanced to second on a Dana Cisowski (Torrington, Conn.) single down the left field line and crossed the plate on a run scoring single from senior Audrey Johnson (Fitchburg, Mass.) to tie the contest at 2-2.

The hosts regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth with Roode tripling to left to bring home junior Gwendolyn Carpenter (Ashley Falls, Mass.), while McGull added an RBI for the 5-2 edge. Fitchburg State responded in the top of the sixth stanza when junior Molly Grass (Rockland, Mass.) singled up the middle and eventually scored on an RBI base knock by junior Sarah Cahill (Mansfield, Mass.) to cut the deficit to 5-3.
