Falcons Upended By Rams In MASCAC Clash

Framingham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University Women's Basketball team dropped a 99-61 decision to the Rams of Framingham State University this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from the Athletics Center.

 The Basics

How It Happened

1st quarter

Fitchburg State grabbed a 5-3 lead to open the contest on a Rylie Harlow (Hanson, Mass.) and a three ball from senior Jadelen Harold (Nantucket, Mass.), but Framingham State went on a 6-0 run, capped by a Flannery O'Conner (Amesbury, Mass.) bucket to take a 9-5 edge.

The Falcons answered back with Harlow draining a three pointer, while freshman Ephemian Bailey (Maple Grove, Minn.) added a jumper to cut the lead to 17-12 before sophomore Katty Haidul (Gilford, N.H.) pushed the Rams margin to 26-14 with a layup. The two teams traded three pointers to end the opening frame as senior Lovashia Rosario (Worcester, Mass.) hitting for the Falcons, while senior Krysta Padellaro (Newburyport, Mass.) connected for the hosts.

2nd quarter

Framingham State upped its advantage (36-17) as Padellaro sank a pair from the charity stripe to polish of a 7-0 stretch, but Fitchburg State responded when Bailey netted a layup and a pair of free-throws to reduce the lead to 38-21.

Trailing 50-24, the Green and Gold cut into the deficit with buckets from freshmen Sariah Dyer (Raynham, Mass.) and Pena Niles (Billerica, Mass.) before the Rams closed the first half scoring on an O'Connor layup to make the score 58-28 going into the break.

3rd quarter

Following the intermission, Framingham State extended the lead (63-28) on a three ball from senior Camille Desrochers (Westford, Mass.), but Fitchburg State answered back as Harold notched a jumper.

The Falcons continued to back as sophomore Olivia Almeida (Wilmington, Mass.) buried a three-pointer, while Dyer and freshman Delaney Brown (Billerica, Mass.) registered baskets to make it 78-42.

 4th quarter

Almeida and Dyer would connect on buckets for Fitchburg State to trim the lead to 87-48, but Framingham State went on a 7-0 as newcomer Kelsey Yelle (Easton, Mass.) notched a jumper for the 94-48 advantage.

The Green and Gold answered with an 8-0 run, capped by a Morgan Genness (Belgrade, Maine) three ball (94-56) before the Rams secured the victory as freshman Carly DeLanoy (Patterson, N.Y.) netted a layup, resulting in the 99-61 final.

Inside the Numbers

  • Falcons were led by Harold with a team-best ten points, five boards and one assist
  • Bailey chipped in with ten points, five caroms, one steal and one block
  • For the Rams, O'Connor finished with a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds as well as two assists and three blocks
  • Padellaro added 15 points, four boards, three assists and four steals
  • 74th meeting between the two teams on the basketball court with the Falcons 30-43 all-time when taking on the Rams
  • Fitchburg State shot 22--for-55 (40.0%) from the field and (8-of-23) 34.8% from downtown
  • Framingham State went 36-of-69 (52.2%) overall and (5-for-14) 35.7% for beyond the arc
  • Rams held a 41-30 edge on the glass
