Falcons Conclude Season in MASCAC Quarterfinals

 

Westfield, Mass.  – The Fitchburg State University women's basketball team fell to the Owls of Westfield State 101-54 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) quarterfinal action this evening at the Woodward Gymnasium.

How It Happened

1st Quarter

The Falcons raced out to a 5-1 lead with a jumper and three-pointer from freshman Rylie Harlow (Hanson, Mass.). Westfield answered with a 13-0 run to move ahead 14-5. Green and Gold senior Lovashia Rosario (Worcester, Mass.) had a steal and found first-year Ephemian Bailey (Maple Grove, Minn.) for the fast-break layup but Westfield closed out the frame with a bucket from Jordyn Lummus for the lead.

2nd Quarter

Fitchburg State opened with a three-point play from Jadelen Harold (Nantucket, Mass.) and a free throw from Delaney Brown (Billerica, Mass.). Next, a pair of jumpers from Bailey cut into the Owls lead (44-18), while the freshman added a pair of blocks on the defensive end. Olivia Almeida (Wilmington, Mass.) added eight points down the stretch for the Falcons.

3rd Quarter

Opening buckets from Jordan Grant extended the Owls lead (62-32), but the Falcons followed with a layup from Harold and a pair from the charity stripe from Harlow. Freshman Allison Prentis (Mansfield, Mass.) and classmate Stephanie Hart (Shirley, Mass.) knocked down back-to-back three-pointers late in the frame. Paris Wilkey contributed six points in the third quarter for Westfield State.

4th Quarter

Westfield's Lauren Legere and Falcons' Rosario traded three-pointers to open the quarter then Almeida added a steal and a layup. Westfield notched five straight points from Jordan Halgas to push the lead to 93-51. Fitchburg State finished the game with a three-point play from Harold.

 

 Inside the Numbers

  • Harold finished her career with a double-double 12 points, 12 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks while Harlow contributed 10 points and 5 caroms for the Falcons
  • Almeida added 11 points off the bench and Bailey chipped in with 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 blocks
  • For the Owls, Grant led the way with a game-high 16 points
  • Westfield State shot 38-for-92 (41.3%) from the field and (9-for-34) 26.5% from three-point range
  • Fitchburg State finished 18-for-55 (32.7%) overall and (7-for-24) 29.2% for beyond the arc
  • Westfield State held a 47-53 advantage on the boards
