The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 22, Dean 11

Records: Fitchburg State (1-1) | Dean (0-1)

How It Happened

Trailing 1-0, Fitchburg State went on a 10-0 run in the first quarter as freshman Delaney Ponder (East Bridgewater, Mass.) tallied a hat trick, while junior Eva Kozikowski (Portsmouth, N.H.) added to scores.

The Falcons upped its lead to 12-2 with Kozikowski connecting on back-to-back marker before Dean cut the deficit to 12-4 as junior Jazzy Sztyler-Magee (Burlington, Conn.) and classmate Maire Brown (Huntington, N.Y.) netted goals just before the half.

Following the intermission, the Bulldogs opened the scoring on a tally from freshman Natalie Peterson (Hudson, Mass.), before the Green and Gold responded with goals by junior Brooke Johnson (Billerica, Mass.) and senior Julia Miele (South Hadley, Mass.) to make the score 14-5.

Peterson would strike Dean (14-6), but Fitchburg State answered as freshman Alexis Raymond (Tewksbury, Mass.), classmate Nicole Orlowski (Ellington, Conn.), Kozikowsi and junior Cali Laakso (Fitchburg, Mass.) found the back of the net for the 19-6 edge.

The hosts trimmed the lead to 21-11 following a marker by Brown before the Falcons secured the victory with junior Grace Wetherbee (Marblehead Mass.) capping the scoring, resulting in the 22-11 final.
