Miele leads the way for Green and Gold with team-leading four goals

Wenham, Mass. - The Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team suffered a tough 18-13 setback to the Fighting Scots of Gordon College this afternoon in non-conference action from the Brigham Complex.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State raced out to a quick 3-0 lead on goals from senior Julia Miele (South Hadley, Mass.), junior Cali Laakso (Fitchburg, Mass.) and classmate Eva Kozikowski (Portsmouth, N.H.) before Gordon knotted the score at 3-3, paced by a pair of markers by freshman Kaitlyn Mini (Malden, Mass.) and a goal from senior Abigail Mansfield (Starksboro, Vt.).

The Green and Gold regained the advantage with newcomer Delaney Ponder (East Bridgewater, Mass.), Miele and junior Brooke Johnson (Billerica, Mass.) finding the back of the net for the 6-3 edge.

The Fighting Scots took the lead back (8-7) when sophomore Alexis Lapia (Exeter, N.H.) netted back-to-back scores before the Fitchburg State and Gordon traded goals to close the half as freshman Alexis Raymond (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Lapia connected on markers to make the score 9-9 going into the break.

Following the intermission, Fitchburg State grabbed a 12-11 edge with Miele notching her fourth tally on the after, but Gordon answered as Lapia and Mansfield netted goal for the 15-12 lead after three quarters of play.

The Green and Gold cut the deficit to 15-13 when freshman Nicole Orlowski (Ellington, Conn.) potted her sixth tally on the season before the Fighting Scots secured the victory with Mini registering her third goal of the game, resulting in the 18-13 final.
