Falcons Upended By Owls In MASCAC Tilt

Kozikowski collects pair of goals for Green and Gold

 

Westfield, Mass. - The Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team dropped a 19-2 decision to the Owls of Westfield State University this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Alumni Field.

How It Happened

Westfield State and Fitchburg State traded goals to start the contest as junior Cassidy Connolly (Woburn, Mass.) notched a marker for the hosts before junior Eva Kozikowski (Portsmouth, N.H.) registered Fitchburg State's tally.

The Owls went on a 6-0 run to end the first quarter with sophomore Natalie DeMaio (Westwood, Mass.) finding the back of the net, while Connolly, sophomore Kiely Hafensteiner (Tolland, Conn.), freshman Emma Prattson (Tolland, Conn.) and junior Nicole Rinkus (Pembroke, Mass.) notched goals for the 7-1 margin.

The hosts would extend its lead to 11-1 going into the break on scores by Connolly, Rinkus, newcomer Hannah Collins (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and junior Megan Bailey (Quincy, Mass.).

Following the intermission, the Falcons answered midway through the frame with Kozikowski receiving a feed from freshman Alexis Raymond (Tewksbury, Mass.) and proceeded to bury a shot into the back of the net for her team-leading 30th goal to make the score 11-2.

Westfield State closed the contest on an 8-0 run, capped by an Ashley Charlton (Braintree, Mass.) tally, resulting in the 19-2 final.
