Lancers Race Past Falcons in MASCAC Clash

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-8 decision to the Lancers of Worcester State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this evening from Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Worcester State dominated the first quarter racing out to a 6-0 lead. Freshman Ashley Hurley (Agawam, Mass.) bookended, with a pair of goals,  a hat trick from senior Clare Conway (Billerica, Mass.), and a tally from junior Shea Jarvis (Auburn, Mass.) for the Lancers.

The Falcons tipped the twine 45 seconds into the second quarter when junior Eva Kozikowski (Portsmouth, NH) found newcomer Nicole Orlowski (Ellington, Conn) for her sixteenth goal of the season. Freshman Alexis Raymond (Tewksbury, Mass.) notched her 10th goal of the season to cut the deficit to 7-2 heading to intermission.

Javis registered the first goal of the second half for the visitors to extend the score to 8-2. The Green and Gold battled back tossing in back-to-back goals from junior Brooke Johnson (Billerica, Mass.) and Kozikowski, however, the Lancers poured in two goals in the last minute to forge ahead 10-4.

Conway added a pair of goals to open the fourth quarter for Worcester State. Next junior Cali Laakso (Fitchburg, Mass.) added her 22nd of the season. Trailing 15-5, the Falcons closed out the game with goals from Kozikowski,  junior Grace Wetherbee (Marblehead, Mass.), and senior Julia Miele (South Hadley, Mass.).

Inside the Numbers

  • 15th meeting between the two teams in women's lacrosse with the Falcons 5-10 vs the Lancers

  • Worcester State held the advantage in shots (50-36), while FSU led in draw controls (14-10) and ground balls (25-24)

  • Junior Francesca Reyes (Malden, Mass. ) stopped sixteen shots for Fitchburg State in the first half while Alyson Cote (South Hadley, Mass.) had nine saves in the second half in the loss

  • Savanna Rosado (Milford, Mass.) made 21 saves for Worcester State in the victory, and freshman Sofia Perivolotis (Littleton, Mass.) had three saves in relief.
