Orlowski paces Falcons with four goals

Fitchburg, MA. – The Fitchburg State Women's Lacrosse team suffered a tough, 18-12 setback to the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth this evening in non-conference action from Elliot Field.

How It Happened

In the opening quarter, UMass Dartmouth opened with a 6-0 advantage on two goals each from senior Melanny Sanchez Alvarez (Stamford, CT) and freshman Maddy Allen (Whitman, MA) as well as tallies by newcomer Lily Nees (Rehoboth, MA) and senior Widline Thomas (Stamford, CT) before Fitchburg State answered on a marker by junior Alexis Raymond (Tewksbury, MA) to make the score 6-1.

The Corsairs pushed the lead to 10-1 with Thomas leading the way with a pair of markers, but the Falcons countered as sophomore Autumn Tibbetts (Lunenburg, MA) found the back of the net to make the score 11-2 going into the break.

Following the intermission, the Green and Gold trimmed the deficit to 12-5 as junior Nicole Orlowski (Ellington, CT) netted a pair of goals, while classmate Delaney Ponder (E. Bridgewater, MA) added a score. Sanchez Alvarez upped the Corsairs advantage to 13-5, but sophomore Jessica St. George (Dracut, MA) connected on back-to-back tallies for Fitchburg State to reduce the lead to 13-7.

In the final quarter of play, the Green and Gold continued to rally as Raymond and Tibbetts buried goals to make the score 13-9, but UMass Dartmouth answered back with Sanchez Alvarez and Thomas netting goals (15-9). The Falcons responded with markers from Raymond and Orlowski before the Corsairs secured the victory with Nees and Sanchez Alvarez potting goals, resulting in the 18-12 final.

  • This evening's contest marked the 15th meeting between Fitchburg State and UMass Dartmouth in the sport of lacrosse with the Falcons 7-8 all-time when taking on the Corsairs

The Falcons return to action on Monday as they host the Buccaneers of Mass. Maritime Academy for at conference clash, starting at 6:00PM.
