Women's Lacrosse Falls Short in MASCAC Quarterfinal

BRIDGEWATER, MA: Fitchburg State women's lacrosse fell short to the fifth-seeded Bridgewater State Bears this evening in the MASCAC quarterfinal game.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/30/24

- Score: Bridgewater 14, Fitchburg 12

- Records: Bridgewater (8-10), Fitchburg (7-11)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  Bridgewater would go up 6-4 through the first quarter. Erin McIntyre highlighted the quarter for the Bears with two goals. Jessica St. George (Dracut, MA) and Nicole Orlowski (Ellington, CT) combined for all four of the Falcons goals with two each. The Second quarter was all Bridgewater early, as they scored four more. Fitchburg would respond by starting a run before the half. Alexis Raymond (Tewksbury, MA) got it going with 5:13 left in the second on a man-up opportunity. Autumn Tibbetts (Lunenburg, MA) would close out the half with her first goal.

- The Falcons would continue their run into the second half with two more St. George goals, putting Fitchburg within one at 10-9. McIntyre would score her fourth in the third, pushing the Bears back up by two. St. George would again score at the conclusion of the third quarter for her fifth of the contest. The fourth would start with the Falcons trailing by one 11-10. Orlowski would knot it up for the first time since the first quarter at the 11:17 mark. She would then give Fitchburg their first lead just under a minute later with her fourth goal of the game. McIntyre couldn't be stopped by the Falcons. She would net her fifth and final goal of the game tying it back up at 12-12. Savannah Harrington would score the game-winner with 4:21 left to go. Meredith Sylvia would then add on an insurance goal with 3:01 left, getting the final of 14-12.

- Caitlin Persson (Worcester, MA) would suffer the loss (6-9) in net for Fitchburg after making an impressive 17 saves on 31 shots faced. Brooke La Torra would get the win (4-3) after making four saves on nine shots faced.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  St. George scored 5 goals and had 2 draws.

-  McIntyre had 5 goals, 2 assists, and 6 draw controls.

-  Orlowski had 4 goals and 2 assists.
