Hemmings stops nine shots for Falcons in non-conference setback 

Newport, R.I. – The Fitchburg State University women's soccer team suffered a tough 7-0 setback to the Seahawks of Salve Regina University in non-conference action this afternoon at Reynolds Field.

How It Happened

Salve Regina jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in first half as senior midfielder Courtney Bouchard (Middleton, Mass.) connected on her first mark of the season at the 4:39 mark before junior Abby McMackin (Walpole, Mass.) lofted a shot into the upper right corner for her team leading fourth tally of the year three minutes later.

Later in the opening frame, the Seahawks upped its margin with just under five minutes remaining in the stanza as freshman midfielder Mia Papiro (Glen Head, N.Y.) struck for her first collegiate tally to make the score 3-0 after 45 minutes of play.

Following the break, Salve Regina extended its lead (5-0) midway through the second stanza on back-to-back goals from McMackin and sophomore Ella Rath (Pawcatuck, Conn.), resulting in the 7-0 final.

Inside the Numbers

Fifth meeting between two schools on the pitch with the Falcons 2-3-0 when taking on the Seahawks.

Freshman goaltender Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass.) turned away nine shots for the Green and Gold, while junior Carly Pala (Milford, Conn.) made five saves for the Seahawks en-route to her third clean sheet on the season.

Salve Regina held a 26-6 advantage in shots, while also finishing with a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.
