Gough stops ten shots for Green and Gold

Bridgewater, Mass. – The Fitchburg State Women's Soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to the Bears of Bridgewater State this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Swenson Field.

How It Happened

Bridgewater State opened the scoring in the 15th minute of action as sophomore Audra McDuffie (Millbury, Mass.) deposited a shot inside the near post for her third marker on the season for the 1-0 advantage.

The Bears doubled their margin (2-0) at the 25:21 mark of the first half when junior Michelle Belcher (Norton, Mass.) slide a pass over to McDuffie, who connected on her second tally of the afternoon.

Fitchburg State nearly cut into the deficit in the 27th minute with sophomore forward Hannah Cravedi (Baldwinville, Mass.) firing a shot on frame, but Bears keeper Tory Viola-Laughery (Brockton, Mass.) turned the shot aside. The hosts extended its lead just before the half when Belcher tucked the ball into the upper right corner for her second tally of the 2021 campaign to make the score 3-0 going into the break.

Following the intermission, senior Madelyn Morin (East Longmeadow, Mass.) secured the victory for Bridgewater State as she snuck a shot inside the far post for her second goal on the year, resulting in the 6-0 final

This afternoon's contest marked the 29th meeting between the two schools on the pitch with the Falcons 3-24-2 all-time when taking on the Bears

Bridgewater State has won the last nine matchups against Fitchburg State, including a 4-1 decision in the last meeting on October 26, 2019 at Swenson Field

Bears finished with a 41-6 margin in shot, while also holding an 11-4 edge in corner kicks
