Falcons Excel At Branwen Smith-King Invite

McInnis and Camara lead Falcons with pair of MASCAC qualifying marks

Medford, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's indoor track & field team continued its 2021-22 campaign this afternoon placing ninth with a total of 17 points at the 2021-22 Branwen Smith-King Invitational, hosted by Tufts University.

How It Happened

Sophomore Makany Camara (Lowell, Mass.) paced the Falcons on the afternoon with a pair of fifth place finishes in the high jump (1.51m) and the 60 meter hurdles (10.20) to qualify for the MASCAC's, while setting PR's in both events.

Graduate student Natasha McInnis (Leominster, Mass.) was also solid for the Green and Gold after placing fifth overall in the 60 meter (PR) (8.25) and 13th in the long jump (4.27m) to qualify for the post-season, while freshman Kathleen Messer (Mason, N.H.) notched a MASCAC qualifying time of 2:01.53 in the 600 meter to set a new PR.

The 4x200 meter relay team of McInnis, Messer, sophomore Joyce Arbia (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) and freshman Marjorie Veliotis (Stoughton, Mass.) turned in a stellar time of 2:06.36, while sophomore Olivia Kephart (Rutland, Mass.) posted a new PR toss of 8.58 meters in the weight throw (14th).

In the field, junior Jenna Aubuchon (Fitchburg, Mass.) placed 16th overall in the long jump with a personal best mark of 3.89 meters, while in the shot put, Kephart (18th) and sophomore Erin Donelan (Fitchburg, Mass.) (20th) registered tosses of 7.21m and 6.29m respectively.

Rounding out the top Falcon effort on the day were Arbia with a 15th place time of 2:12.61 in the 600 meter, while junior Lilah McAndrew (Old Lyme, Conn.) turned in a time of 7:13.02 in the mile.
