Falcons Place Third At 2022 MASCAC Indoor Championships

Kephart and Messer tally pair of All-MASCAC honors

Norton, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University women's indoor track & field team placed third overall with a total of 51 points at the 2021-22 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Beard Field House on the campus of Wheaton College.

How It Happened

Freshman Kathleen Messer (Mason, N.H.) led the way for the Falcons with a second place vault of 2.20 meter in the pole vault, while junior Abigail Murphy (Quincy, Mass.) finished third in the 1000 meter with time of 3:23.50.

In the 600 meter, Messer (3rd) and sophomore Joyce Arbia (Sag Harbor, N.Y.) (6th) turned in times of 1:58.01 and 2:02.48, while in the 60 meter hurdles, sophomore Makany Camara (Lowell, Mass.) (9.98) and junior Erin Donelan (Fitchburg, Mass.) (11.38) finished fifth and ninth.

In the 60 meter, graduate student Natasha McInnis (Leominster, Mass.) (4th) and sophomore Latasha Thompson (Templeton, Mass.) (10th) turned times of 8.36 seconds and 8.62 seconds, while McInnis (28.81) and Thompson (29.77) finished ninth and 11th respectively in the 200 meter.

The 4x800 meter relay team of Messer, Murphy, Arbia and junior Lilah McAndrew (Old Lyme, Conn.) placed third with a time of 12:29.67, while the 4x200 meter relay team of McInnis, Messer, Thompson and junior Lena Spadafore (Lunenburg, Mass.) posted a fourth place time of 2:01.82. The 4x400 meter relay team of Donelan, McInnis, Spadafore and newcomer Marjorie Veliotis (Stoughton, Mass.) was also solid, finishing fourth overall with time of 5:18.79. With all three relay team earning spots on the All-MASCAC team.

In the field, newcomer Antonia Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) (3rd) and sophomore Olivia Kephart (Rutland, Mass.) (5th) notched tosses of 7.96m and 6.97m in the shotput, while Kephart placed sixth overall in the weight throw with a toss of 7.80 meters.

In the high jump, Camara finished seventh overall with mark of 1.41 meters, while McInnis (4.21m) and Donelan (3.45m) rounded out the top Falcon performances on the day, placing tenth and 11th respectively in the long jump.
